We know the forest offers us our living. That is why we feel a strong obligation to do everything we can to help manage and protect that resource. Our Murphy Beds, including the Tuscany Murphy Bed, along with our Side Cabinets and Home Office units are all wood products.
Wilding Wallbeds is cutting its contribution to waste in the landfills by recycling hardwood and plywood waste. Hardwood off cuts are salvaged and then processed into mulch and plywood off cuts are used to make the pallets that the Murphy Beds are shipped on.
The wood we use is harvested from a sustainable forestry program, the Hardwood Forestry Fund, which conducts tree-planting projects in order to:
- Establish high quality, available hardwood forests
- Educate the public about the compatibility of sound forest management with environmental responsibility
- Enhance wildlife habitat
- Promote soil and water conservation
- Create partnerships between community, industry and public natural resource agencies.
The Hardwood Forestry Fund is supported by individuals, foundations and primarily through contributions from the forest products industry.
Wilding Wallbeds adheres to the Zero Emissions standard that has been issued by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The board regulates formaldehyde emissions in composite wood products, such as hardwood plywoods, that are sold in the state of California. All 100% of our plywood panels are compliant with CARB.
In addition, we are compliant with the standards that have been created by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Inc. (SFI). “SFI works with conservation, community, government and industry partners to improve sustainable forest management in North America.”
How Wilding Helps Protect Your Home
Because we see our customers as our friends and not just a number on a spreadsheet, the comfort and safety of your home is very important to us. That’s why Wilding has taken so many steps to make sure that our products emit no harmful amounts of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) such as Formaldehyde into the air you and your family breathe. Domestically grown woods or manufactured materials are certified to meet the most stringent air standards in the world. These standards were created and are now enforced by CARB. Wilding uses only CARB approved wood and wood composite cores. Wilding only uses finishes that comply with the CARB Coatings Program which addresses airborne toxic control measures to reduce the negative public health impacts from toxics in coatings. Organic coatings are materials that are applied to protect or beautify a surface. The solvents in the coatings can evaporate into the atmosphere and contribute to volatile organic compound and airborne toxic emissions that can have a negative effect on the health of sensitive individuals. We finish all hardware with low VOC coatings that will give you more than just an attractive finish.
Another way Wilding is helping customers stay safe is with Antimicrobial Protection, using Sherwin-Williams finishes with Microban® Protection. This product used to be just for clinics and hospitals, but is now available for consumers in their own homes. This antimicrobial technology can be a permanent part of your Tuscany Murphy Bed (or many of Wilding Wallbeds other products), once it is infused into the finish used during the manufacturing process. This protection keeps your products safe from mold and mildew without any impact on the durability or aesthetics.
It works 24/7 to prevent the growth of microbes – much better than using a surface disinfectant, which only temporarily gets rid of microbes. This allows your products to stay cleaner and controls odors by preventing problems before they can start. The best part is that is is good for a lifetime. It won’t wash off or wear away and never needs to be reapplied.
Microban is widely-known in the sportswear industry as a solution for odor, mold and mildew. It is also popular with manufacturers of medical equipment, workout equipment and gym lockers, etc. Antimicrobial Protection is just another example of the lengths Wilding Wallbeds goes to in order to provide customer satisfaction.
How Wilding Helps Protect The Forest
We need to have healthy forests – not just here in the United States, but all over the world. Trees help eliminate poisonous carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to grow. Then they release our needed oxygen into the air (Just one acre of trees can get rid of 13 tons of dust and gases!).
At Wilding Wallbeds, it is our policy not to use wood from forest areas where high conservation values are threatened by management activities, wood that has been harvest illegally or wood harvest from areas converted from natural forest to plantations or non-forest uses. We are committed to establish the origin of materials used in the products affected with sufficient geographical resolution to ensure compliance with this policy.
What Else Are We Doing?
Energy Saving Lighting: Wilding Wallbeds has cut the Production Facility’s lighting power consumption in half by upgrading production lighting to a system of cutting edge energy-saving lights that use high efficient bulbs.
Clean Renewable Energy: The Production Facility has been retrofitted with solar panels that provide clean renewable energy to power all of the machines and lighting.
Filtered Emissions: Wilding uses a spray booth that uses exhaust filters to cut the emissions from the shop by scrubbing the air before it gets released into the environment. These filters make the finishing process safer, cleaner and more efficient.
Recycled Solvents: During the furniture manufacturing process, solvents, such as paint thinners, stains and lacquers become contaminated and are considered to be hazardous waste. Wilding has invested in a solvent recycler that allows us to reclaim up to 95% of our solvents.
Wilding Wallbeds strives to do our part to protect the forest, the environment and our customers. You can learn even more about what we are up to here. We have been building and shipping wall beds across the U.S. and internationally since 1997. We are the manufacturer, so our pricing is direct, helping to save you thousands of dollars on comparable products. We have a greater selection of styles, wood types, colors, cabinet and home office options than any other wall bed or Murphy Bed manufacturer or retailer. Wilding leads the industry in style, design and functional innovation. For example, we designed the first Murphy Bunk Bed and were the first to design and build the “Hidden Locking Leg”, the solid wood bed face and the drop down table – just to mention a few. We are frequently imitated, but never duplicated. Go here to learn more about who we are.
